Divorce can be painful and stressful for both parties. You can help make the divorce process in New Jersey easier for both spouses by using a divorce mediator. A divorce mediator is an impartial third party who can help those seeking a divorce reach a mutually acceptable agreement. The divorce mediation process in New Jersey can help resolve various disputes like child custody, financial distribution, parenting, and other disputes related to NJ divorce laws.
The divorce mediation process can be a less stressful way to resolve disputes and get a divorce in New Jersey. At Fairlight Mediation, we understand every case is unique, and so are the differences between the spouses. The following is a brief overview of our approach to the NJ divorce process through mediation, taking into consideration NJ divorce laws and the overall divorce process.
A currently married couple decides to move forward with divorce
They meet with a representative of Fairlight Mediation Services
Basic information is collected via a client information form completed by both clients
Our practice manager reviews the information and presents the clients with a flat rate fee for divorce mediation
The clients accept the flat rate fee and sign the Agreement to Mediate
A divorce mediator is assigned to the case and mediation times are scheduled
Once all issues are resolved to the satisfaction of the clients, the mediator will draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
The MOU is furnished to the clients.
It is recommended that the clients have the MOU reviewed by individual counsel
The clients can use the MOU for submittal to the court if they are representing themselves (pro se)
The MOU can be used as the basis of a Marital Settlement Agreement if represented by counsel.
As experienced divorce mediators, we do our best to make the NJ divorce process as easy and simple as possible, so that both parties can get a divorce faster, with less cost, and less stress.
